Job description

School Support Officer Level 3 - Alway Primary School

Salary: Grade 5 SCP 12 - 17, £27,711 - £30,060 (Pro rata)

The salary is pro rata based on 35 hrs per week, 39 weeks per year (Term time only, plus staff training days). Working hours are 8.30am - 4.00pm, Monday to Friday.

The governing body is looking to appoint a School Support Officer who shares the Alway Primary School vision. Our school motto is 'Always feel Proud', which relates to every area of school life—learning, teaching, behaviour, environment, and atmosphere. It means every member of our school strives to go the 'extra mile' to make the school the best it can be.

This is an opportunity to work in a welcoming and nurturing school environment.

The successful candidate will work with the Senior School Support Officer to provide business support for the school. Experience with Microsoft Office, school-based systems (SIMS and Parent Pay), and an understanding of GDPR would be beneficial.

Under the guidance of senior staff, you will undertake administrative, financial, and organisational tasks within the school. You will be expected to maintain professionalism at all times while delivering excellent customer service to parents and outside agencies. The ability to work calmly and accurately under pressure is essential. Duties include:

  1. Dealing with sensitive reception and visitor matters.
  2. Contributing to the planning, development, and organisation of support service systems, procedures, and policies.
  3. Organising school trips and events.
  4. Maintaining manual and computerised records/management information systems, such as Parent Pay and SIMS.
  5. Carrying out general financial administration, including processing invoices and orders, and maintaining school inventory.
  6. Producing lists, information, and data as required, e.g., pupil data.
  7. Maintaining accurate pupil records in compliance with GDPR.
  8. Performing typing, word processing, and other IT tasks.
  9. Completing and submitting complex forms and returns, including those to outside agencies like the National Assembly for Wales.
  10. Managing procedures for staffing and payroll changes.
