Job description

  • Term Time only (33 weeks)
  • 27.5 hours per week (part time) Monday to Fri from 12:30-18:00 (term time)
  • 9 Saturdays per year 08.30 - 12.30 (3 or 4 per term)
  • 5 full days on INSET (3 x September, 2x January, 1 x April)
  • Up to 5 full days during the holidays (1x September, 1x December, 1x July, 2x August) to be paid upon submission of a timesheet.

For September 2025, Cheltenham Prep seeks to appoint a friendly and welcoming part-time Receptionist (afternoons) to greet visitors and direct calls and queries in person or over the telephone.

As the first point of contact for many visitors, including prospective parents and guests, it is essential that applicants are adept communicators with first-rate people skills in order to provide the excellent, warm first-impression on which Cheltenham Prep prides itself.

Joining a small but friendly team, we are looking to hear from applicants with the following attributes:

  • Ability to remain calm, professional and polite during busy periods
  • Previous reception/administrator experience and a good understanding of customer service.
  • Attention to detail and strong proofreading skills are essential
  • Effective and competent administrative and IT Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience of working in a busy environment and prioritising competing demands.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with outstanding verbal and written communication proficiency at all levels and to a wide audience
  • Understanding of the importance of safeguarding
  • Smart professional appearance

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet and welcome students, parents, and visitors with a friendly smile
  • Manage phone calls, emails, and general enquiries
  • Support administrative tasks as required (such as the registration process/pupil-absence log/reprographic support)
  • Assist with day-to-day running of the school office
