Tasks:
Job Summary: The school psychologist reports to the regional directorate. The role of the school psychologist is to offer consultation, evaluation, intervention, and prevention services to students, by promoting the implementation of conditions conducive to their learning and adaptation. The psychologist promotes the cognitive and socio-emotional development that is essential to the development of students and the objective of this is to help students identified by specialists in their academic development.
Qualifications:
Hold a minimum of a master’s degree in psychology;
Be registered with the College of Psychologists of Nova Scotia;
Fluency in French, both oral and written, and have a good knowledge of English;
Have a valid driver’s license and have a vehicle to perform their duties;
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills;
Demonstrate diplomacy and discretion with staff and the general public in the handling of information and records;
Have a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality;
Responsibilities and Duties:
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of education and health professionals;
Administer and interpret the results of psycho-educational assessments;
Use a variety of means to identify the student’s strengths and needs;
Promote prevention practices and strategies in the school environment;
Develop plans for behaviour management;
Perform functional behavioral analyses;
Participate in the development of adapted intervention and behaviour management plans;
Identify solutions that are conducive to improving the conditions for student success;
Regularly evaluate the progress made and the effectiveness of the strategies used;
Conduct training workshops for staff;
Support the implementation of the inclusion policy.
Salary: The salary is determined based on the Nova Scotia Teachers’ Union collective agreement and a 15% increase will be applied to all salary scales.
