We are looking for a Pathways Coordinator for Lochaber High School, to work with young people, mentors and schoolstaff involved in the MCR Pathways programme.
About the role:
You will be the key person delivering the MCR Pathways mentoring programme to young people in Lochaber High School.You will work within the school and form an integral part of the school community and wider MCR team. You willsupport volunteers from the local community who give their time to mentor a young person for an hour a week atthe school.
Key responsibilities:
- Helping to build exceptional individual relationships with young people across S1 to S6.
- Consistently supporting and engaging with volunteer mentors throughout their participation with the programme.Helping to drive volunteer recruitment in the local community.
- Actively support MCR young people in school as they follow their education and employment pathways.
- Evidencing progression, impact and best practice for the MCR programme in your school.
About you:
- Exceptional ability to build meaningful relationships with young people aged 11-18 years, education colleagues,volunteer mentors, local employers and community organisations.
- Awareness and understanding of the principles of safeguarding and child protection.
- Ability and confidence to present programme information and deliver prepared training sessions to groups of youngpeople and adults.
- Ability to work well on your own initiative, as part of a team and on a flexible basis in response to the currentneeds of the programme.
- An understanding of the challenges and barriers that care-experienced and/or vulnerable young people mayencounter.
- Experience or a knowledge of processes to document and evidence good practice and positive outcomes.
- Confident in the use of Google and/or Microsoft Word, spreadsheets and Teams.
You will be an empathetic person who is open minded, non-judgemental, resilient and who is driven to improve outcomesfor care experienced and other vulnerable young people.

MCR Pathways is an award-winning charity established in Glasgow in 2007. Our mentoring programme is now delivered inschools across the whole of Scotland, including the Highlands and Islands. Our passionate team is dedicated tohelping the most vulnerable young people gain self-confidence, identify their skills and recognise and fulfiltheir potential. The Pathways Coordinator position for Lochaber High School will be taking over the MCR programme currently running inthe school and continue to grow it further, to reach more young people and support MCR volunteer mentors.

Alongside colleagues in the Student Voice team, they also empower our five Sabbatical Officers – and particularly theVice President Education – to pursue their objectives, providing advice on achieving institutional change, aswell as project planning and professional support.

The Person:
We’re looking for a confident and enthusiastic individual, with at least one year’s professional experience ofproject management and campaigning for change, to join our tight-knit team, committed to empowering students tomake their voices heard on the issues that matter to them.
If you can not only cheerlead and champion our incredible student leaders, but also challenge them to thinkcritically about their goals and how best to achieve them, then this could be the role for you.
You’ll need to be confident engaging with both student volunteers and senior members of the University, maintainingan extensive network of stakeholders, and adapting your communication style – whether verbal or written – tosuit a range of audiences.
You’ll regularly face long sets of papers and complex policies, so will need an eye for detail to ensure nothing getsmissed and students are able to feed-in effectively.
We want a team player who isn’t afraid to lend a hand to colleagues, but you also need to be able to make the most ofthe autonomy you’ll have over your own projects, and prioritise competing demands and long-term strategicprojects to achieve successful outcomes.
