Role

We are looking for a Pathways Coordinator for Lochaber High School, to work with young people, mentors and schoolstaff involved in the MCR Pathways programme.

About the role:

You will be the key person delivering the MCR Pathways mentoring programme to young people in Lochaber High School.You will work within the school and form an integral part of the school community and wider MCR team. You willsupport volunteers from the local community who give their time to mentor a young person for an hour a week atthe school.

Key responsibilities:

- Helping to build exceptional individual relationships with young people across S1 to S6.

- Consistently supporting and engaging with volunteer mentors throughout their participation with the programme.Helping to drive volunteer recruitment in the local community.

- Actively support MCR young people in school as they follow their education and employment pathways.

- Evidencing progression, impact and best practice for the MCR programme in your school.

About you:

- Exceptional ability to build meaningful relationships with young people aged 11-18 years, education colleagues,volunteer mentors, local employers and community organisations.

- Awareness and understanding of the principles of safeguarding and child protection.

- Ability and confidence to present programme information and deliver prepared training sessions to groups of youngpeople and adults.

- Ability to work well on your own initiative, as part of a team and on a flexible basis in response to the currentneeds of the programme.

- An understanding of the challenges and barriers that care-experienced and/or vulnerable young people mayencounter.

- Experience or a knowledge of processes to document and evidence good practice and positive outcomes.

- Confident in the use of Google and/or Microsoft Word, spreadsheets and Teams.

You will be an empathetic person who is open minded, non-judgemental, resilient and who is driven to improve outcomesfor care experienced and other vulnerable young people.

The Pathways Coordinator position for Lochaber High School will be taking over the MCR programme currently running inthe school and continue to grow it further, to reach more young people and support MCR volunteer mentors.

The Support Development Worker has the overall responsibility to develop online and direct support services forsurvivors of organised/ ritualised abuse and people with mental health problems who are affected by extremechildhood abuse. In particular setting up online and face to face support groups.

Major Tasks

• Recruit, train and supervise volunteers to assist on the project.
• Develop online peer support groups for survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse who are waiting to access mental health services or unable to access these services.
• Form a steering group and engage with people with lived experience around the design and structure of the groups, exploring policies and risks.
• Identify the needs of survivors through discussions around policy and risk in the ways in which virtual space is used.
• Pilot online support groups and evaluate and demonstrate impact on wellbeing.
• Organise weekly facilitated support groups to provide ongoing practical and emotional support, peer support and a place to come together.
• Develop a programme for group sessions covering issues such as mental health, PTSD, coping skills, alternatives to self-harm, benefits advice, healthy relationships and other issues as agreed by participants.
• Provide 2 groups weekly running for 6-8 weeks aimed at survivors of organised abuse to reduce isolation and loneliness and assist in sharing lived experiences.
• Monitor and evaluate progress to evaluate and learn what works best for survivors and shape future developments.
• Support and encourage survivors to access other agencies and services.
• Carry out on-going consultations and evaluations.
• Develop partnerships with other agencies working with survivors.
• Oversee compilation of reports, including evaluation of statistics.
• Attend meetings and trainings as necessary.
