About the role

St Anthony's Catholic College, Deeragun is seeking a dedicated School Officer - Assisting Student Learning (ASL) at the Assisi (secondary) Campus to commence 14 July 2025 until 5 December 2025. This is a Term Time, Fixed term position, completing 25.85 hours per week (5.17 hours/day).

The primary purpose of the School Officer - Assisting Student Learning is to contribute to the provision of a quality educational service by collaborating with teachers and student support services to provide support and guidance which assists students in their learning and development. The School Officer - Assisting Student Learning provides efficient and high-quality support to teachers with the preparation and/or enhancement of learning materials for learning and teaching, ensuring all duties are completed to the standards determined by the classroom teacher, student support services, and Principal.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assist teachers in preparing, implementing, and supervising learning programs in the classroom.
  • Assist individuals or small groups with activities supporting inclusive teaching practices, behaviour management, and social skills development.
  • Support students with their personal organisation when required.
  • Provide support to teachers in the classroom.
  • Assist with classroom resources.
  • Support student learning, including general support, personalised support (e.g., mobility or communication), assisting students to complete tasks, and preparing support materials.
  • Support students with learning barriers to engage in learning activities.
  • Collect data for teacher analysis, such as anecdotal notes on performance, work habits, and behaviour.
  • Develop professional relationships with students based on trust and respect.
  • Provide formative feedback to students during teaching sessions.

Requirements to join this vibrant school community

  • Ability to organise and prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a busy environment.
  • Competence and confidence in using a personal computer and relevant software (e.g., Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Experience working with students with disabilities or special needs is desirable.

Mandatory Criteria

  • Current Working with Children Suitability Card (Blue Card).
  • Current Driver’s Licence.
  • Ability to travel within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role safely.
  • Cert III in Education Support or a commitment to complete this qualification.
  • First Aid qualification or willingness to obtain it.
