Job summary

The Practice Supervisor/Practice Assessor (Practice Teacher) post is responsible for the specific training of post-registration students, providing them with a wide range of learning opportunities in a variety of settings during the community practice placement. The post is responsible for the assessment of the students' development via completion of the assessment tool per university guidelines and making a professional decision whether the student is Fit for Practice. Identified as the link between Practice Educators, educational establishments and the School Health Service, the role has overall responsibility for developing effective student placements. The School Nurse Practice Supervisor/Practice Assessor (Practice Teacher) role will also contribute, as appropriate, to the School Health Services Management Team, together with the Team Leads of the other Functions, the two Heads of Service and the Lead Manager.

Main duties of the job

• To actively manage student placements, sickness and absence reporting and return to work interviews.
• Maintain and be responsible for providing a wide range of learning opportunities in a variety of settings for post-registration students during their community practice placements.
• To support the recruitment, selection and retention of staff.
• To facilitate and review staff development in skills appropriate to their role by appraisal and personal development planning.
• To provide professional advice and support to team members, including support in the induction, preceptorship and mentoring of new staff.
• To organise student placements providing education and learning opportunities within a wide range of settings to develop and extend their professional skills.
• To participate in the assessment of students' development, and provide written evidence of progress, and achievement of fitness to practice.
• To be responsible for own continual professional development according to NMC guidelines and Manchester Local Care Organisation (MLCO) policies.
