JOB SUMMARY: Effectively delivers the components of the School Health Program; provides health care and nursing services to students; promotes health and employs primary prevention by providing health and safety education; serves as a technical and health education resource to students, personnel and the community.
Qualifications
- Possesses Bachelor’s degree in nursing
- Possesses valid Pennsylvania School Nurse certificate, along with Pennsylvania state RN licensure
- Assures compliance with Employment Eligibility, Background Checks, Pre-Employment Drug Testing, and Physical Examination/TB Test
- Assures and maintains compliance with all Pennsylvania certification requirements
- Possesses ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
- Possesses ability to deal courteously and tactfully with students, staff, and the public
- Demonstrates proficiency in the English language, with ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Primary Job Functions
The position holder must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. It is the responsibility of the employee to inform the District of any and all reasonable accommodations that will be required.
- Provides care to students and staff who have been injured or who present with acute illnesses; utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for students with chronic health conditions
- Performs the state mandated health screenings, and inputs all screenings information into student software system
- Evaluates student immunization and physical status at appropriate grade levels
- Administers/dispenses medicine and/or medical treatment as per prescription specifications
- Administers basic first aid and CPR as needed
- Promotes health and prevention education and safety; conducts staff education and in-service training meetings related to specialized health conditions, procedures, medications and other issues
- Serves as a technical and health education resource to students, personnel and the community; responds to inquiries and provide information; communicates the condition of students with health liabilities to teachers; provides health charts and related information as necessary
- Provides consultation and assists school staff, students and families with communicable disease control, first aid, personal hygiene, student health assessments and school site health and safety assessment
- Collects, prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports related to student health and assigned activities
- Inputs student health information into student information system
- Trains and provides work direction and guidance to assigned support staff
- Promotes School-Wide Positive Behavior Support (SWPBS)
- Processes child abuse referrals according to established procedures and regulations as directed
- Maintains regular and timely attendance
- FLOAT NURSE ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
- Visit Non-Public schools in the District per schedule assigned by the Health Services Department Coordinator or designee
- Perform mandatory state screenings and reports for all non-public school children
- Provide building coverage for absent School Nurse per assignment by the Health Services Department Coordinator or designee
- Under the direction of the School Nurse(s), provide assistance with mandatory screenings, management of student daily visits for illness or injury, data input, and reporting, per assignment by the Health Services Department Coordinator or designee
Secondary Job Functions
- Maintains professional competence through staff development activities and/or self-selected professional growth activities
- Participates in meetings, conferences and in-services as assigned
