Job description

Falmouth Middle School is seeking a highly qualified and dedicated School Nurse to join our team. The Middle School Nurse (Gr 6-8) plays a vital role in promoting the health and well-being of students in the middle school setting. This position involves providing direct healthcare services, health education, and preventive care to ensure a safe and healthy school environment conducive to learning. Position is part of a health services team of four nurses that support our PreK to grade 12 students.
Responsibilities:

  • Conduct health screenings and assessments to identify health concerns or issues among students.
  • Provide immediate medical assistance and administer first aid to students and staff in case of injuries, illnesses, or emergencies.
  • Maintain emergency response protocols and procedures, including CPR and AED training, to ensure readiness for any medical emergencies.
  • Administer medications to students as prescribed by healthcare providers, following school policies and procedures.
  • Ensure proper documentation of medication administration and maintain accurate medication records.
  • Educate students, staff, and parents on various health-related topics, including nutrition, safety, and illness prevention.
  • Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans for students with chronic health conditions, in collaboration with parents, healthcare providers, and school staff.
  • Ensure compliance with state immunization requirements by monitoring students' immunization records and coordinating immunization clinics or outreach efforts as needed, in partnership with the superintendent to help ensure compliance.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, counselors, and other school personnel to address students' health needs and promote a coordinated approach to student support.
  • Refer students to appropriate healthcare providers or specialists for further evaluation and treatment, and facilitate follow-up care as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records for all students, including immunization records, health assessments, and medical treatment documentation.
  • Collaborate with school leadership and local health authorities to develop and implement crisis response plans and protocols.

Qualifications:
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license with relevant state licensure.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Maine DOE 524 Certification
  • Experience working in pediatric or school nursing preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of pediatric health issues, developmental stages, and common childhood illnesses.
  • Commitment to promoting a safe and healthy school environment for all students.
