A local government authority is hiring a support officer to assist school customers with management information systems. The role requires excellent communication and customer service skills, along with the ability to prioritize tasks and work independently. This position offers hybrid working arrangements and is based at Wigan Town Hall. Your role:
Working as a support officer on our helpdesk, you will provide support to our school customers in using and maintaining their school management information system. We support a number of different systems on our helpdesk, currently this includes Arbor, Bromcom and Arbor Finance. Our service operates from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday (including during school holidays). Colleagues work alternately 8-4 or 9-5. Customers contact our team by telephone, email or via our website.
You will also provide support with our team’s corporate responsibilities including sending emails; cleaning and checking data; and supporting the submission of statutory returns to the Local Authority, for example end of key stage assessments and the termly school census.
About you:
A knowledge and understanding of schools MIS packages or education would be an advantage, but don’t worry if you haven’t, we can show you.
You will need to be a confident communicator with excellent customer service skills. You will be able to identify and recognise problems and be able to actively find solutions. You will also be able to work independently and as part of a team. You will need to be able to prioritise tasks and have good organisation skills.
You will be able to demonstrate your ability to learn and use technology in a fast-paced environment.
You will need to maintain a high level of product knowledge to provide the best service to our customers.

The team delivers 3 service level agreements for our customers: education performance analysis products; management information systems (MIS) support; and a free school meal checking service; as well performing statutory functions for the Local Authority. We also provide data analysis and insights for the Local Authority and specifically Children’s Services and work closely with the service. We are part of the Performance and Insight Unit (PIU) which supports the Council in its Data Strategy and use of business intelligence to inform the services provided to residents.
