Job description

School Matron

Working hours: Full-time during the School’s term time

Start date: 1 September 2023

Benefits: The option of free all-year-round accommodation on site is available with this position

Salary: £17,325 pa without accommodation or £11,086 pa with accommodation

Term time only

Godstowe is one of the leading girls’ preparatory boarding schools in the U.K. with over 400 pupils aged between 3 to 13. The girls and boys achieve outstanding results in their academic studies and all-round education. Approximately 70 girls (aged between 7 and 13) are full boarders at the School, living in one of our three Boarding Houses on our 12-acre site on the northern outskirts of High Wycombe. Each House is led by a Houseparent or Housemistress and their Deputy, with other resident Assistants contributing to the care and well-being of the girls.

We require an enthusiastic and efficient Matron to provide assistance in one of the School’s Boarding Houses. This is a term time only role, with weekend and evening work included during term time (with the exception of Exeat/Leave weekends when the School is closed for boarders). Holidays are generous and as part of the remuneration, we offer free meals during term-time and the option of accommodation in the Boarding House. Salary is paid monthly.

The role presents an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to immerse themselves in the environment of an outstanding educational institution – many of our previous assistants in the Boarding Houses have progressed their careers in education and boarding.

If you have a professional outlook and a can-do attitude coupled with a good sense of humour, as well as a caring and supportive personality, we would welcome your application.

Previous experience of having looked after children will be an advantage. Full training will be given in all aspects of the safeguarding of children, health & safety and our IT systems.

This post is restricted to female applicants, as permitted under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.
