Job description

A leading secondary school in Bury is seeking a dedicated School Librarian to cover maternity leave for up to 12 months. The role focuses on fostering a love of reading among students, managing the library, and supporting academic success. Salary: £14,373.30 – £14,831.51 per annum

Hours: 25 hours per week (11am – 4pm)

Contract: Fixed-term maternity cover (up to 12 months)

Start Date: As soon as possible

Working Pattern: Term time only (38 weeks) plus 1 additional week (39 weeks total)

Responsibilities
  • Manage and develop the school library collection to meet curriculum and recreational reading needs.
  • Support students in developing information literacy and research skills.
  • Promote reading for pleasure through engaging displays, events, and reading programmes.
  • Assist students and staff with finding appropriate resources for learning and teaching.
  • Maintain library systems, including cataloguing, loans, and digital resources.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to support curriculum delivery.
  • Organise author visits, book clubs, and literacy events.
  • Provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for all library users.
  • Support students with homework and independent study.
Qualifications
  • Experience working with young people aged 11-16.
  • Passion for books, reading, and learning.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Skills
  • Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • IT skills and familiarity with library management systems.
