Job summary

OFG Education is seeking an Assistant Cook at Abbey Gardens School in Bury St Edmunds to support the preparation, cooking and service of nutritious meals for students. You will work with the Cook/Supervisor to ensure meals are prepared safely and on time in a busy school kitchen.

This permanent role offers 37.5 hours per week, starts January 2027, and requires catering experience, a positive team player approach and a commitment to high hygiene and customer service standards.

Qualifications

• Catering or kitchen experience preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
• Good literacy and numeracy skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation, cooking and serving of meals, including dietary requirements.
• Maintain a clean, safe and hygienic kitchen and dining area.
• Support stock management and report shortages or concerns.
• Record meal numbers and extra meal requests.
