Long-term teachers are working with an alternative provision Gloucester, seeking an experienced kitchen assistant to join their team on a permanent basis.

We are seeking applicants with previous experience working in a school setting. Since this is a specialist environment, familiarity with working with students who have special educational needs, including Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs and challenging behaviour, is essential. The ideal candidate will have a Level 2 qualification in Food Safety.

You will be contracted to work Monday to Friday, from 11am to 2pm. There may be opportunities for additional hours, including support in after-school and breakfast clubs.

Duties and responsibilities:

1. Preparing the dining area for service, including moving or setting up furniture and trolleys, cleaning, and tidying after service.
2. Preparing the service area, hot cupboards, and other equipment as instructed.
3. Washing dishes, cutlery, tumblers, jugs, serving utensils, containers, tables, and other catering equipment.
4. Cleaning catering areas to regulated standards as directed.
5. Assisting in serving meals in line with procedures.
6. Encouraging social skills and good table manners, ensuring safety with knives and forks.
7. Cleaning up spillages and clearing cutlery and crockery from tables.
8. Washing and storing food utensils and crockery efficiently.
9. Understanding and implementing statutory Health and Safety policies, Environmental Health requirements, and emergency procedures.
10. Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children, providing emotional support where necessary.
11. Promoting good behaviour and a calm atmosphere.
12. Reporting any misbehaviour in accordance with the school’s Behaviour Policy.
13. Addressing issues calmly and politely, serving as a role model.
14. Reporting incidents to senior staff as appropriate.
