Job description

My client is seeking an enthusiastic and diligent ICT Technician to join their team. The role primarily involves providing technical support to the school and working flexibly across the school as a member of Support Staff. Experience in a school setting is advantageous but not essential.

The ICT Technician will be responsible for general maintenance of designated computer equipment, resolving technical problems, and promoting the use of ICT across the curriculum.

You should be able to work effectively in a team, have a basic knowledge of personal computers and software, and be willing to develop your skills through on-the-job training.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Maintain ICT equipment and facilities, report and fix faults in coordination with The Network Manager and Headteacher.
  2. Prepare, maintain, set up, and clear ICT equipment for safe and effective use in activities across the school.
  3. Perform basic construction, repair, and modification of ICT equipment within health and safety guidelines, and assist in developing equipment for practical activities and events.
  4. Ensure the safe storage and security marking of equipment and materials, including during vacations.
  5. Ensure operational use of equipment, including electrical testing, reporting faults, and reordering or repairing as needed.
  6. Maintain the Department's ICT inventory, including disposing of dysfunctional equipment following safety guidelines.
  7. Assist in setting up and operating ICT equipment for assessments, examinations, or school events, possibly outside normal hours.
  8. Support teaching staff with curriculum delivery and related activities, ensuring safety procedures are followed.
  9. Assist in the procurement and receipt of equipment, adhering to school policies and value principles.
  10. Undertake training to improve skills and safety in duties.
  11. Perform administrative tasks assigned by the Network Manager.
  12. Support departmental functions, including reprographics, as required.

Essential Skills and Tasks:

  • Install and test new software.
  • Inspect and set up new computer equipment.
  • Maintain peripherals such as scanners, printers, whiteboards, and projectors.
  • Assist in deploying hardware around the school.
  • Work independently and demonstrate practical problem-solving skills.
  • Communicate effectively and be sensitive to different levels of user expertise.
  • Stay updated on new developments in hardware and software.

Desired Skills (or the ability to learn):

  • Make software available to users.
  • Manage antivirus software updates and functionality.
  • Set up and maintain user accounts.
  • Liaise with external support and suppliers for repairs and maintenance.
  • Check network backup logs and perform routine network maintenance.
  • Familiarity with network infrastructure components.

Conditions of Service and Hours of Work

The postholder reports to the Line Manager, Head of Department, and is expected to work flexibly within a 36-hour week, generally between 8:00 a.m. and 5:15 p.m., with a 60-minute break. Variations may be agreed for training or community engagement.
