Job summary

Keys Children is seeking an experienced Grounds & Property Maintenance operative to support Honeybrook House's school and residential services. You will maintain the site grounds, ensure safety, and perform a range of preventive maintenance tasks to support a well‑maintained, safe environment for vulnerable children.

Under the supervision of the Head Teacher and Estates Team you will schedule works, supervise contractors, and carry out upkeep such as decoration, carpentry, plumbing, and grounds

Qualifications

• Must be able to work effectively without direct supervision.
• Organised, pragmatic and solutions-focused.
• Desirable: experienced multi-skilled maintenance operative.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the school site and extensive grounds, including trees, hedges and external areas, ensuring safety and compliance.
• Carry out compliance checks (fire alarms, emergency lighting, playground checks, Legionella) and keep accurate records.
• Undertake maintenance tasks such as carpentry, plumbing, decorating and general repairs as directed by the Head Teacher.
• Develop and manage a rolling decorating/refurbishment programme, scheduling works during school holidays where possible.
• Coordinate and supervise contractors, ensuring health and safety compliance and quality of workmanship.
• Ensure safe access by maintaining pathways, entrances, and external areas; manage leaves, moss, gritting, and snow clearance.
• Perform other reasonable duties as requested by the Head Teacher or Estates Team.
