This alternative provision is a thriving school located in the heart of Barnoldswick, Lancashire. We are seeking a highly organised, proactive, and experienced School Finance Officer to join our dedicated team, playing a pivotal role in the financial management and success of our school. This is a fantastic opportunity for a finance professional looking for a rewarding role within the education sector, commencing in September 2025.

The Role: School Finance Officer As our School Finance Officer, you will be instrumental in ensuring the efficient and compliant financial operations of the school. Working closely with the School Business Manager and Senior Leadership Team, you will manage day-to-day financial processes, maintain accurate records, and contribute to sound financial planning. This vital role supports the delivery of high-quality education to our pupils in Barnoldswick.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage daily financial transactions, including processing invoices, raising purchase orders, and handling payments.

Perform regular bank and ledger reconciliations.

Administer school payroll (or liaise with external payroll providers) and pension schemes.

Monitor and track school budgets, providing regular reports and analysis to budget holders and the Senior Leadership Team.

Ensure compliance with DfE, ESFA, Local Authority, and school financial regulations and policies.

Manage the school's petty cash and internal funds.

Assist with the preparation for internal and external audits.

Support procurement processes, ensuring value for money.

Maintain accurate financial records and filing systems.

Respond to finance-related queries from staff, parents, and suppliers.

Undertake general administrative duties to support the smooth running of the school office.

Skills and Experience Required:

Proven experience in a finance administration role, ideally within a school or public sector environment.

Relevant accounting qualification (., AAT Level 2/3 or equivalent) or significant practical experience.

Strong proficiency in financial management software (., [mention specific software if applicable, ., RM Finance, PS Financials, FMS, Sage]) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Excellent numeracy, literacy, and ICT skills.

Meticulous attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.

Ability to work independently, manage a varied workload, and meet deadlines.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with diverse stakeholders.

A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. (Successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check).

Desirable (but not essential):

Knowledge of school-specific management information systems (., SIMS).

Experience with parent payment systems.
