Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a proactive DT & Art Technician for a Newham, East London secondary school. You will support DT/Art lessons, prepare materials, maintain equipment, and help with safety and displays, working closely with staff to ensure smooth practical sessions.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in DT or Art environments, strong organisational skills, and a collaborative, student-focused approach.

Qualifications

• Experience in DT/Art or practical environments within schools.
• Knowledge of tools, materials and equipment used in workshops.
• Strong understanding of health and safety procedures in a school workshop.
• Excellent organisational and time-management abilities.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Hands-on, practical approach and willingness to help.
• Good communication and relationships with students.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and set up materials, tools and equipment for practical lessons.
• Support teachers during DT and Art lessons.
• Keep classrooms, workshops and specialist areas clean and ready for use.
• Maintain and check equipment, tools and resources.
• Assist with stock control and material orders.
• Support students with safe use of equipment and materials.
• Ensure health and safety procedures are followed.
• Help prepare, display and store students' work.
• Carry out basic maintenance and repairs where appropriate.
• Work closely with staff to ensure lessons run smoothly.
