Job summary

Medway Council is seeking a School Crossing Patrol to supervise safe crossing at designated points for children and pedestrians. The post requires adherence to SCP Service policies, use of uniform and stop-sign equipment, and reporting concerns to management.

A DBS check is mandatory, and you will be supported through induction, probation, and a Career Progression Framework to advance from level A to B and C.

Qualifications

• The discharge of these duties must not be to the detriment of the welfare of other road users.
• Use all uniform and equipment provided for safety of yourself, children and the public, especially when stopping traffic on the Highway.
• Maintain control over children awaiting your crossing instructions.
• When children cross, walk to the middle of the road, wait for a gap, and escort them across.
• Report problems to the Manager of the SCP Service.
• Report concerns regarding children's behaviour to the appropriate person.
• May be required to write a report about incidents.
• Use a stop sign and communicate with members of the public; may face verbal abuse.
• Enhanced DBS check will apply.
• Career Progression Frameworks (CPF) introduced for all roles at Medway Council.
• Salary offered at level A with potential progression to B and C.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety of children and pedestrians at designated crossing points.
• Follow Health and Safety Procedures and SCP Service policies.
• Wear and use all uniform and equipment provided.
• Maintain control of children waiting to cross and escort them safely.
• Report issues to SCP Service Manager and relevant authorities.
• Respond appropriately to public interactions and potential verbal abuse.
• Complete incident reports when required.
• Undergo Enhanced DBS checks as part of safeguarding.
