School Crossing Patrol - Perryfields Infant and Perryfields Junior

Permanent, Part Time

£13.00 per hour

Location: Chelmsford

Working Style: Community-based worker

Support your local community by joining Essex County Council's School Crossing Patrol Team as a School Crossing Patrol Officer at Perryfields County Infant School, Lawn Lane, Chelmsford CM1 7PP.

This role involves supporting schools once in the morning and once in the afternoon, ensuring the safety of pedestrians crossing the road to and from the school and surrounding areas.

We seek a punctual, reliable, approachable individual who enjoys engaging with the public.

The position is approximately 7.5 hours per week, with holiday pay included. You must be available during the 39-week academic year, working about 45 minutes in the morning (08:00 - 09:00) and 45 minutes in the afternoon (14:45 - 15:45), depending on site needs. Uniform, equipment, and training will be provided.

Responsibilities include:

  • Considering the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility-impaired pedestrians.
  • Maintaining regular contact with the schools served by the crossing.
  • Assessing risks at the crossing site and reporting issues to the supervisor.
  • Assisting in preparing reports on incidents such as accidents or failure to stop.
  • Maintaining the condition of uniform and equipment, requesting replacements when necessary.
  • Giving clear signals to drivers to stop traffic and ensuring the road is clear of pedestrians before crossing.
