Job Title: School Crossing Patrol Officer

Location: Harrow

Contract Type: Temporary Assignment

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 1 hour in the AM, 1 hour in the PM (specific hours to be confirmed)

Overview of a School Crossing Patrol Officer:

Pertemps has an exciting opportunity within the London Borough of Harrow for a self-driven and motivated School Crossing Patrol Officer to join an expanding team. The role offers a competitive pay rate of £14.25 per hour, increasing with London Borough of Harrow Pay Scale increments. Benefits include accruing up to 28 days holiday per year (including Bank Holidays) and the opportunity to apply for internal permanent roles within the borough.

Main Responsibilities:

1. Help children and adults cross the road safely at designated points, using a school crossing patrol sign (lollipop) to signal drivers to stop.
2. Use and report any faults in hazard lights at crossings.
3. Report disobedient vehicles to the supervisor or police and complete paperwork for any accidents or incidents.
4. Maintain control over children waiting to cross, ensuring they follow instructions.
5. Follow all health and safety procedures and use provided uniform and equipment.
6. Attend in-service training days and occupational health assessments as required.

Requirements:

• No specific educational qualifications are needed; however, good communication skills and experience working with children and adults are beneficial.
• The role requires standing outdoors for long periods in all weather conditions, so physical stamina is essential.
• A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for child safety.
• On-the-job training will be provided, including how to use the crossing patrol sign and manage traffic.
• Patience, calmness under pressure, and excellent timekeeping are essential qualities.
