Overview of a School Crossing Patrol Officer

Pertemps has an exciting opportunity within the London Borough of Harrow for a self-driven and motivated School Crossing Patrol Officer to join an expanding team. The role offers a competitive pay rate of £14.25 per hour, increasing with London Borough of Harrow Pay Scale increments. Benefits include accruing up to 28 days holiday per year (including Bank Holidays) and the opportunity to apply for internal permanent roles within the borough.

Main Responsibilities

1. Help children and adults cross the road safely at designated points, using a school crossing patrol sign (lollipop) to signal drivers to stop.
2. Use and report any faults in hazard lights at or near crossings.
3. Report any disobeying vehicles to the supervisor or police, and complete paperwork for any accidents or incidents.
4. Maintain control over children waiting to cross, ensuring they follow instructions.
5. Follow all health and safety procedures and use provided uniform and equipment for safety.
6. Attend in-service training days and occupational health assessments as required.
7. This role requires good communication skills, patience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. It involves working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Requirements

1. No specific educational qualifications are needed, but good communication skills and experience working with children and adults are beneficial.
2. Physical stamina is important, as the role involves standing outside for long periods in all weather conditions.
3. A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required to ensure the safety of children.
4. On-the-job training will be provided, including how to use the crossing patrol sign and manage traffic.
5. Patience, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and excellent timekeeping are essential.
