Job summary

Our Lady's Bishop Eton Catholic Primary School in Liverpool is seeking a School Cook to lead the day-to-day provision of school meals and to ensure meals are nutritious, appealing and prepared safely. You will plan menus, place orders, manage stock and budgets, supervise lunchtime assistants, and uphold high standards of cleanliness and allergen management in line with UK food safety requirements.

This permanent, part-time, term-time role offers a rewarding opportunity within a supportive school

Qualifications

  • Experience in a catering or professional kitchen.
  • Recognised Food Hygiene qualification and knowledge of food safety.
  • Understanding of UK food standards and allergen awareness.
  • Awareness of nutritional needs of primary-aged children.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, organised and experienced School Cook to join our school community and lead the day-to-day provision of our school meals.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who takes pride in preparing nutritious, appealing and well-balanced meals for children and understands the important role that food plays in children's health, wellbeing and readiness to learn.
The successful candidate will have a sound knowledge and understanding of UK food safety standards, food hygiene requirements and school catering expectations, including allergen management, food preparation, commitment to 2027 school food standards, updated storage and safe working practices.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of our kitchen, including menu preparation, ordering and stock control, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, and ensuring that meals are prepared and served safely and efficiently.
We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working in a catering or professional kitchen environment.
  • Has a recognised Food Hygiene qualification and understands current food safety requirements.
  • Has knowledge of UK food standards and legislation, including Benedict' Law, allergen awareness and safe food handling.
  • Understands the particular nutritional and dietary needs of primary-aged children.
  • Can work effectively within school catering expectations and relevant nutritional standards.
  • Is able to plan and prepare healthy, nutritious and appealing meals.
  • Can manage food orders, stock levels, budgets and kitchen resources effectively.
  • Is well organised and able to work calmly under pressure.
  • Has excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Is able to manage, motivate and drive the catering team.
  • Can supervise the roles of lunchtime assistants
  • Takes pride in maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming kitchen.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
