The ideal candidate has school caretaker experience, practical maintenance skills (plumbing, decorating, minor repairs), and a proactive, reliable approach with safeguarding awareness.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working as a caretaker in a school environment is essential.
• Practical maintenance skills including basic plumbing, decorating, and minor repairs.
• Good knowledge of school site security, safety, and general maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing the security, safety, and cleanliness of the school site.
• Carrying out general maintenance, minor repairs, decorating, and basic plumbing.
• Conducting regular inspections of the school premises and identifying repairs or improvements required.
• Opening and locking up the school site, including early mornings and occasional evenings.
• Monitoring the condition of buildings, grounds, fixtures, and equipment.
• Carrying out routine checks and reporting any issues requiring specialist attention.
• Liaising with and supervising contractors when required.
• Responding promptly to emergencies such as leaks, break-ins, or fire alarms.
• Supporting school events with site set-up, room preparation, and general logistics.
• Ensuring the school premises remain safe, clean, secure, and well maintained.
• Reporting any significant maintenance or safeguarding concerns to the appropriate member of school leadership.
