Job summary

TeacherActive is supporting a welcoming middle school in Cheddar, England, to recruit a reliable School Caretaker. This permanent, all-year role offers 35 hours per week and a salary between £25,989 and £28,142 depending on experience.

You will carry out general repairs, basic carpentry, plumbing and decorating, maintain buildings and grounds, support site security and safety, and work with staff and contractors to improve the school environment. DBS checks and safeguarding compliance apply.

Qualifications

• Practical maintenance and general DIY skills.
• Experience of basic repairs, carpentry, plumbing or decorating.
• A proactive, organised and dependable approach.
• Ability to work independently and use initiative.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to learn about school compliance systems and procedures.
• Commitment to safeguarding and maintaining a safe environment for children.
• Previous experience in a school or similar setting, although not essential.

Responsibilities

• Completing general repairs and routine maintenance
• Undertaking basic carpentry, plumbing and decorating tasks
• Helping to maintain the school’s buildings, grounds and facilities
• Supporting site security and health and safety procedures
• Monitoring the condition of the premises and reporting concerns
• Working effectively with school staff, external contractors and visitors
• Following relevant compliance procedures and school policies
• Contributing to the continued improvement of the school environment
