Job summary

Pathways Learning Centre, part of Enable Trust, is seeking a conscientious Caretaker to help keep the school safe, clean and well-presented. The role supports pupils, staff and visitors by maintaining a welcoming environment and responding to day-to-day site needs.

The position involves varied tasks, including routine maintenance, health and safety checks, opening/closing the site and assisting with room setup for activities. 25 hours per week, permanent contract.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on maintenance and caretaking experience in a school or similar environment.
  • Reliable, self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Committed to high standards and safety responsibilities.
  • Able to identify problems, find solutions and respond to unexpected situations.
  • Organised and safety-conscious with good communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, secure and welcoming school environment for pupils, staff and visitors.

Caretaker - Pathways Learning Centre£25,583-£25,989 full-time equivalent (actual salary for part-time working £14,862 - £15,104) - Pay award pending25 hours per week, All Year Round, PermanentSplit shifts: 07:00 - 09:00 & 15:00 - 18:00, Monday-Friday

We're looking for a Caretaker to join our team. You'll play an important role in helping to ensure our school remains safe, secure, clean and well-presented, providing an environment where pupils, staff and visitors feel welcome and supported.

This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. From carrying out routine maintenance and site inspections to supporting health and safety and responding to the day-to-day needs of the school, you'll be a valued member of the team whose work has a direct impact on the experience of everyone who uses the site.

What you’ll be doing
  • Helping to maintain a safe, secure and welcoming school environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
  • Carrying out routine maintenance, minor repairs and site improvements.
  • Undertaking regular health and safety checks and reporting or addressing issues as appropriate.
  • Opening and securing the site, buildings and facilities in line with operational requirements.
  • Supporting contractors and monitoring works carried out on site.
  • Assisting with site security, emergency procedures and compliance requirements.
  • Maintaining external areas, grounds and outdoor spaces to a high standard.
  • Supporting the preparation of rooms and facilities for school activities and events.
  • Taking pride in the appearance, cleanliness and overall presentation of the site.

  • Practical and hands‑on, with experience in maintenance, caretaking, facilities or a similar role.
  • Reliable and self‑motivated, with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
