Role responsibilities

  • Maintaining clean, safe and secure school premises, including building and grounds;
  • Carrying out cleaning, handy person activities, routine maintenance, refurbishment, porterage, and minor repairs;
  • Supervision of school cleaning staff;
  • Promoting health and safety around the school;
  • Carrying out porterage duties, such as moving furniture and equipment;
  • Maintaining the general school premises, furniture, and fittings, reporting issues to the Head Teacher;
  • Carrying out small repairs and DIY projects;
  • Arranging larger repairs and obtaining quotes from contractors;
  • Daily cleaning and ad-hoc duties, such as litter picking and waste disposal;
  • Emergency cleaning duties, such as gritting and spillages;
  • Arranging annual deep cleans of classrooms, staffrooms, kitchens, dining areas, and other spaces;
  • Managing cleaning tools and products, including stock levels and replacements;
  • Maintaining school security as the main key holder, including locking/unlocking and checking premises;
  • Setting security alarm systems, reporting breaches, and responding to alarms;
  • Regular checks of CCTV, alarm systems, locks, fire safety equipment, and perimeter fencing;
  • Advising the Head Teacher on security and safety matters;
  • Conducting regular health and safety checks and reporting issues;
  • Providing safe access during cold weather conditions.

Requirements

  • Previous property maintenance/caretaking experience in a school preferred;
  • Experience of building maintenance;
  • Experience with security systems, including alarms;
  • Good understanding of health and safety regulations;
  • Basic DIY skills;
  • Good interpersonal skills for dealing with contractors and visitors;
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills;
  • Ability to work with SEMH children;
  • Willing to undergo an Enhanced DBS check; costs covered by ISP;
  • UK Driving License and own transport required.
