School Business Manager - Immediate Start

Location: Borehamwood (Hertsmere Borough)
Salary: 32,654 - 40,476 per annum (FTE)
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week - Term Time Only (39 weeks, including INSET days) plus 2 weeks during school holidays
Contract: Long-term with potential for permanent appointment
Start date: ASAP
Closing date: 22 September 2025, 12:00 PM

About the Role

Tradewind Recruitment are working in partnership with a successful and welcoming school in Borehamwood to recruit an experienced School Business Manager for an immediate start.

This is a vital leadership role within the Senior Management Team, reporting directly to the Headteacher. The School Business Manager will play a key part in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of all non-teaching functions of the school, enabling teachers and support staff to focus on delivering high-quality education.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading on financial management, resource allocation, and procurement in line with best value principles.
  • Overseeing HR processes, personnel procedures, and compliance with employment legislation.
  • Supporting the Headteacher and governors in monitoring, evaluating, and improving operational performance.
  • Managing school systems, data, and information to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with staff, governors, parents, and external partners.

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

  • Strong knowledge of financial and budget management (including Schools Financial Value Standards - SFVS).
  • Experience of HR policies, procedures, and employment legislation.
  • Competence with information management systems.
  • Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and statutory compliance.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with local government or committee processes.
  • Experience using ARBOR MIS.
  • Knowledge of premises management and facilities maintenance.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety legislation and compliance.
