As a Scheme Project Manager at Story Contracting, you will be working within Rail Structure Renewal Team and will be assisting with the delivery structure renewal projects throughout Scotland’s rail network. These involve structure replacements and refurbishments, culvert installation and various other civil engineering works across multiple disciplines within the railway environment working for our client Network Rail.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Health & Safety implementation and management
  • Management of a team through design, development and delivery
  • Ensure integration of the site team with all other disciplines
  • Ensure reporting is communicated effectively, internally and externally
  • Own programmes throughout project lifecycle, working closely with Construction Managers, Site Managers and Planners
  • Manage risks and opportunities collaboratively with whole project team
  • Contribute to accurate Cost and Value Reconciliation (CVR) monthly process for all projects
  • Identify and achieve opportunities through Profit Bridge
  • Implement a robust change management process on all projects
  • Implement and manage procurement schedule, productivity tracker and monitor outputs
  • Support and manage materials, resources and plant to ensure adherence to contract programme
  • Ensure engineering compliance and strive for engineering excellence
  • Undertake delegated Contractor’s Responsible Engineer – Construction duties for respective discipline, progressing to full sign off
  • Undertake TWC / TWS duties with support from CRE
  • Ensure quality processes are implemented, managed and adhered to throughout the works
  • Identify and realise Value Engineering opportunities through design and development
  • Promote Safe by Design and innovation throughout project lifecycle
  • Ensure early development and production of project handback files to ensure submission within 4 weeks of project completion
  • Carry out all aspects of on-site engineering, from design checks, take offs, setting out and quality control throughout project lifecycle
  • Write and prepare site paperwork including Construction Phase Plan / Works Package Plans / Method Statements / Task Briefings / Risk Assessments / Site Permits
  • Attending pre-start and contract meetings
  • Management of sub-contractors (programme and compliance)
  • Involved in delivery of multiple sites at any one time (where appropriate)
  • Client liaison which involves providing reports and progress meetings
  • Document control via Story Contracting web-based portal

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Excellent working knowledge of IT systems, specifically Microsoft Office suite
  • Preferred working knowledge of AutoCAD (training can be provided)
  • SMSTS 5 Day Site Safety certified preferred (training can be provided)
  • PTS preferred but not essential (training can be provided)
  • Contractors Responsible Engineer CRE (Civils) Experience / Mentorship / Awareness
  • Temporary Works Co-ordinator / Supervisor – competency preferred and experience (training can be provided)
  • Experience of rail industry and infrastructure (multi-disciplinary up to £5m)
  • Full driving licence
  • Qualified to degree level in civil engineering or HNC / HND
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders at all levels
  • Willingness to work nightshift, weekend shift work and stay away from home when required
