Belcan has an exciting Senior FPGA Engineer role in Newport, delivering cutting-edge FPGA solutions for defence and aerospace programmes. Work covers the full lifecycle from requirements capture to integration, in a secure environment.

The position is a 6-month initial contract, with strong potential for extensions. The role demands significant FPGA development experience, hands-on design with VHDL, and expertise in verification, synthesis, and toolchains across Altera, Microsemi, and Xilinx

Qualifications

• Significant commercial FPGA design experience.
• Strong proficiency in VHDL and FPGA verification.
• Experience with FPGA synthesis and timing closure.
• Experience capturing requirements, defining work packages and estimation.
• Knowledge of FPGA development lifecycles and best practices.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Analyze system requirements and define FPGA solutions and work packages.
• Produce FPGA architectural and detailed designs with supporting docs.
• Develop and implement FPGA designs using industry-standard methods.
• Conduct FPGA verification to ensure design compliance.
• Integrate designs onto target hardware platforms and support projects.
