Job summary

Stott and May is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the delivery of complex software and hardware projects within a secure environment in Gloucestershire. The role focuses on coordinating Software and FPGA teams, driving programme delivery, and maintaining high quality standards without hands‑on development.

You will mentor engineers, manage risks, and collaborate with Programme Managers to ensure on‑time, on-budget delivery across multiple programmes in a regulated setting.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading the delivery of complex engineering or software projects.
• Experience leading software engineering programmes and multidisciplinary teams.
• Technically credible with C++ and FPGA development environments (hands-on development not required).
• Experience delivering products throughout the full engineering lifecycle.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience delivering projects within highly regulated or secure environments.
• Background in defence, aerospace or advanced engineering programmes.
• Familiarity with Agile, Waterfall or hybrid delivery methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of complex engineering projects across a portfolio of programmes.
• Manage multidisciplinary engineering teams, including Software and FPGA Engineers.
• Provide technical leadership and direction throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to agreed quality standards.
• Oversee engineering planning, resource allocation and delivery priorities.
• Manage project risks, dependencies and technical issues, escalating where appropriate.
• Work with Programme Managers and stakeholders to ensure successful delivery.
• Mentor and support a small team of engineers, providing leadership and technical guidance.
• Drive collaboration across cross-functional engineering teams to deliver solutions.
• Ensure engineering activities align with programme objectives, governance and compliance requirements.
