Job summary

Sanderson Government & Defence is seeking an experienced AWS Platform Engineer to build and operate automated cloud foundations for a private beta, based in London with 2 days onsite per week. Active SC clearance used in last 12 months and at least 3 years of remaining validity are essential.

The role focuses on secure, resilient AWS environments, IaC (Terraform/CloudFormation/AWS CDK), CI/CD pipelines, observability, and governance.

Qualifications

• Strong AWS cloud engineering and platform experience.
• Background in DevOps, Platform Engineering, SRE or Cloud Infrastructure roles.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, ideally Terraform, CloudFormation or AWS CDK.
• Strong CI/CD pipeline experience.
• Experience with containerisation technologies, ideally Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strong understanding of observability, monitoring and operational support.
• Knowledge of cloud security, IAM, secrets management and governance controls.
• Experience delivering and supporting production cloud environments within secure or regulated settings.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate AWS cloud infrastructure and shared platform services.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code solutions.
• Create and support CI/CD pipelines to enable secure, repeatable deployments.
• Implement monitoring, logging, alerting and observability capabilities.
• Ensure platform resilience, availability and operational readiness.
• Manage configuration, secrets and environment controls.
• Embed security best practice throughout the delivery lifecycle.
• Support incident response, troubleshooting and continuous improvement activities.
• Work across engineering and assurance teams to ensure environments meet security and operational requirements.
• Drive automation and platform engineering best practices.
