Job summary

Rubicon Recruitment in Yeovil is recruiting for a Sawmill Machine Operative. The role offers hands-on timber machining with full training and genuine development opportunities, plus free on-site parking, a canteen and a holiday bonus scheme.

Working Monday to Friday daytime hours, there is no weekend work. You will select timber boards for sawing, operate rip saws, bandsaws, beam saw and moulders to fulfil orders, maximise yield and keep production paperwork accurate.

Qualifications

• Previous experience operating machinery in timber/sawmill environments.
• A relevant certificate, diploma or degree in timber machining (preferred, not essential).
• Physically fit and able to handle heavy timber.
• Forklift licence (preferred but not essential).

Responsibilities

• Select timber boards for sawing and machining.
• Operate rip saws, bandsaws, beam saw and moulders to fulfil works orders.
• Maximise yield from timber processed.
• Accurately tally sawn and machined timber on production paperwork.
• Stack, band and label completed orders safely and presentably.
• Maintain a clean, tidy and safe work area.

As a Sawmill Machine Operative, your responsibilities will include:

• Selecting timber boards for sawing and machining
• Operating rip saws, bandsaws, beam saw and moulders to fulfil works orders
• Maximising yield from every piece of timber processed
• Accurately tallying sawn and machined timber onto production paperwork
• Stacking, banding and labelling completed orders safely and presentably
• Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe work area

As a Sawmill Machine Operative, your experience will include:

• Previous experience operating machinery in a timber or sawmill environment
• A relevant certificate, diploma or degree in timber machining (preferred, not essential)
• Strong basic maths and a good standard of general education
• Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling of heavy timber
• Forklift licence (preferred but not essential)
• A methodical, disciplined and safety focused approach to work
