Job description
Overview

The Surgical Assessment Unit at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd requires Band 2 Health Care Support Workers. The successful applicant will join a supportive and dedicated team. Some hospital-based care experience is preferred. Excellent communication, teamwork, initiative and organisational skills are essential. Training, mentorship and support will be provided.

Main duties / Responsibilities
  • Carry out delegated nursing tasks for a varied group of patients, including those with physical or mental disabilities or illnesses (e.g., bathing, toileting, feeding, last offices).
  • Assist with intentional rounding, provide pressure care, and maintain documentation.
  • Inform nursing staff of any issues or changes in a patient’s condition; recognise and respond to changes in behaviour/condition and report to a Registered Nurse at all times.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
  • Maintain a tidy and clean department.
  • Escort low-dependency patients to other wards as required.
  • Maintain effective communication with patients, carers and colleagues.
  • Assist with obtaining urine/faeces samples as required by a trained nurse.
  • Work with other health professionals to achieve a multidisciplinary approach to treatment and care.
  • Assist patients with dietary requirements and monitor daily food orders as instructed by a registered nurse.
  • Assist in maintaining stock levels, re-stocking, and other general housekeeping duties.
Qualifications / Skills

Essential: Hospital/care experience; ability to work inline with the HCSW code of conduct; experience delivering patient care.

Desirable: NVQ 2; experience within the EQ; experience in working in BCUHB; familiarity with BCUHB documentation; working towards NVQ 3; completed HCSW framework.

Experience

Experience in working within a care environment and delivering patient care; demonstrated ability to work in a team and communicate effectively.

Other

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are welcome to apply.
