Job summary

UL Solutions in Basingstoke invites motivated students, recent graduates, or technically qualified individuals to join our SAR Laboratory on a placement starting November 2026. This hands-on role offers exposure to advanced testing equipment and real customer projects within a safety-focused environment.

You will set up tests, collect data, analyse results, and help document findings, while adhering to quality, safety, and UL Code of Conduct.

Qualifications

• Ideal for individuals studying Engineering or holding a technical qualification seeking hands-on industry experience.
• Candidates from A Levels, NVQs, HNCs, HNDs or similar backgrounds are welcome.
• Good communication skills and ability to interact with others are essential.
• Willingness to work in a team-oriented environment and flexibility to work shifts (24/7).

Responsibilities

• Assist with the setup, execution, and monitoring of laboratory tests.
• Build and adapt test setups and equipment to support project requirements.
• Operate laboratory equipment and measurement instruments under supervision.
• Record, analyse, and document test results accurately.
• Prepare charts, graphs and technical reports summarising findings.
• Read and interpret technical documentation and schematics.
• Examine customer samples and support product evaluations.
• Communicate with customers during test setup and operation to ensure successful test execution.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and work areas according to quality and safety standards.
• Collaborate with engineers and laboratory staff to support ongoing projects.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across laboratory operations.

Are you studying Engineering, have a technical qualification, or are looking to build experience in a laboratory environment? We are looking for motivated individuals to join our SAR Laboratory team onsite in Basingstoke to support an exciting customer project starting in November 2026. This opportunity is ideal for students seeking placement experience, recent graduates starting their careers, or individuals with qualifications such as A Levels, NVQs, HNCs, HNDs, or similar technical and engineering-related backgrounds who are looking to gain hands-on industry experience.

Responsibilities

As part of our SAR Laboratory team, you will support testing activities by setting up laboratory equipment, conducting tests, collecting and analysing data, and helping evaluate products against industry standards. You'll have the opportunity to work with advanced testing equipment and contribute directly to customer projects.

• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across laboratory operations
• Follow all safety, security, and compliance requirements, including the UL Code of Conduct.
• Support additional laboratory activities as required.

Qualifications

• Ideal for individuals studying Engineering, holding a technical qualification, or seeking hands-on industry experience, a placement opportunity, or an entry-level role within the engineering sector.
• We also welcome applications from candidates studying at or recently graduated from technical colleges, including those with qualifications such as A Levels, NVQs, HNCs, HNDs, or similar technical and engineering-related backgrounds.

• Ability for our laboratory shift 24/7, Monday through Sunday, therefore flexibility to work in shifts is required. Current shift pattern:
• Early Shift: 01:00 AM - 09:30 AM
• Day Shift: 09:00 AM - 05:30 PM
• Late Shift: 05:00 PM - 01:30 AM
