Underwriters Laboratories Inc. is seeking motivated Work Students or Engineering Interns to join our SAR Laboratory team in Basingstoke on-site for a November 2026 start. This role provides hands-on testing experience, data analysis practice, and exposure to customer-facing technical activities.

The 3-month assignment may extend based on project requirements and performance, offering valuable insight into safety science and how laboratory work supports real-world product evaluation.

Qualifications

• Engineering student seeking summer placement, placement year work or first role after degree.

Responsibilities

• Assist with setup, execution and monitoring of laboratory tests.
• Build and adapt test setups and equipment to support project requirements.
• Operate laboratory equipment and measurement instruments under supervision.
• Record, analyse and document test results accurately.
• Prepare charts, graphs and technical reports summarising findings.
• Read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, wiring diagrams and test procedures.
• Examine customer samples and support product evaluations.
• Communicate with customers during test setup and operation to ensure successful test execution.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and work areas in accordance with quality and safety standards.
• Collaborate with engineers and laboratory staff to support ongoing projects.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across laboratory operations.
