Job summary

BBC Group and Public Services is seeking a SAP Principal Systems Engineer - Reporting to join the Technology Group. The role involves shaping the strategy for SAP-based finance systems, driving innovation across reporting platforms, and delivering complex technical changes with stakeholders across BBC business units.

The post-holder will work in a hybrid model (London or Cardiff) with two days in the office per week, focusing on data extraction, modelling and reporting within SAP environments

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £70,000 - £80,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Join the BBC’s Technology & Media Operations team to help shape the future of our corporate systems. In this role, you’ll influence strategy and drive innovation across finance platforms, focusing on SAP and partner solutions. You’ll contribute to delivering and managing complex technical changes and optimising systems to maximise value and align with BBC business goals. YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

• As a Principle Data Engineer-Reporting/Analytics, you will work within the Data Analytics, Panning and Consolidation team combining your business understanding, SAP expertise and data engineering skills to help BBC business stakeholders realise greater value from their data and reporting investments


• Building relationships with internal and external stakeholders, offering support and influence focussed on best practice, achievable goals


• Partner with data owners and stewards across a complex, enterprise-scale landscape, helping them modernise reporting capabilities, optimise existing solutions and support strategic transformation initiatives


• Working with Outsourced Technology partners and vendors to support the resolution of Incidents at varied severity levels


• Contribute to a technical roadmap for systems and services within their scope


• Acting as a co-ordinator for Small/Medium technical changes, clarifying requirements submitted by BBC Business Users and managing a change process followed by an outsourced technology provider, including Documentation Review, Technical Build, Testing Cycles, Production Deployment and Post Go-Live support


• Acting as a trusted team member for larger projects with technical change elements, working closely with Project Management and Project Stakeholders to deliver timely, high-quality outcomes

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

• Extensive experience in data extraction, modelling, transformation and reporting in SAP with applications/tools like SAP BW and SAP Datasphere, BEx, SAP Analysis for Office (AFO), SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), SAP BPC


• Experience with the following SAP functions: SAP FI, CO, SD, HR, Intercompany, Tax, Procurement, Financial Statement, Financial Planning and Consolidation processes. Understanding of corresponding data structures and extraction including augmentation via other integrations


• Providing guidance to a wide range of technical and functional stakeholders, including expertise in translating project, user and product requirements into technical solutions. Experience reviewing such Technical and Functional Documentation, identifying and revising based on SAP best practice, quality, clarity and completeness


• Ability to engage and influence stakeholders at various levels, translating and imparting technical concepts into audience relevant information, including leading on requirements gathering with the business process owners and presenting solution options that align with BBC Engineering Strategies


• Able to work in a small team, showing evidence of dealing with complex technical issues, dealing with multiple priorities, managing conflict and using influencing skills to ensure that projects/assignments are properly commissioned and delivered into the business

DESIRED:

• Experience with the following software: SAP S/4HANA, SAP ECC, SuccessFactors, SAP Netweaver Portal, Ariba, Concur, Blackline, SAP Business Data Cloud


• Understanding of media specific requirements relating to an organisation financial operation e.g. Production Accounting


• Understanding the necessity of security, access control and segregation of duties in system design


• Ability to write and communicate complex technology solutions in a clear and coherent way
