About the Role :

The ALS Environmental Division in Springvale, Melbourne is seeking a full-time Sample Receipt Officer to join our dedicated team. The ideal candidate will be committed to exceeding both internal and external client expectations and will be available to work the morning shift from 7 : 00 AM to 3 : 00 PM, Monday to Friday.

The Sample Receipt team is responsible for ensuring the completion of Chain of Custody (COC) protocols. This includes the accurate transcription of information into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and the timely provision of labelled samples to the appropriate laboratory sections. This process encompasses both ALS sister laboratories and subcontractors, adhering to priority requirements such as holding times and fast turnaround requests.

The Day to Day :

The duties of this position include but are not limited to :

  • Greet and assist clients by phone and in person
  • Process incoming sample deliveries into the laboratory, including the sorting and labelling of samples
  • Read and understand client Chain of Custody (CoC) documentation, including analytical testing requirements
  • Accurately enter information from the clients CoC documentation into the ALS LIMS system
  • Liaising with clients (internal and external) regarding sample submissions and related queries
  • Manually move samples and eskies around the laboratory utilising provided equipment (typically around 15kg)
  • Maintaining an excellent standard of occupational health and safety

The Essentials :

  • Laboratory or Chemistry experience or qualifications preferred but not essential
  • Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills
  • Good presentation, professional attitude and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated reliability and efficiency
  • A good level of computer literacy (training is provided for internal recording systems)
  • Ability to absorb and retain high levels of information
  • Ability to process large volumes of samples and records efficiently and within strict timeframes
