Job summary

The Animal & Plant Health Agency (APHA) is recruiting a Salmonella Technical Officer to support the Salmonella strategy across UK laboratories. The role involves auditing Defra-approved laboratories, training assessors, and providing expert advisory services to the NRL and DAL networks.

Travel to external sites, including Weybridge, will be required. You will work within the Field Epidemiology and Surveillance Workgroup (BAC2) to oversee laboratory performance, analyse quality data, and

Qualifications

• Experience auditing Defra approved laboratories and DALs across multiple UK sites.
• Knowledge of international standards and proficiency testing schemes (VETQAS).
• Familiarity with APHA quality assurance procedures and ISO17025 audits.

Responsibilities

• Provide external and internal auditing and advisory services for APHA and DALs at multiple locations.
• Oversee performance of Defra-approved Salmonella testing laboratories for NCP and CSPO testing schemes.
• Coordinate with UKAS, VETQAS and APHA teams to deliver laboratory approval appraisals.
• Produce audit reports and quality assurance data analyses for the NRL and DAL networks.
• Contribute to ongoing quality initiatives and CAPA activities across the DAL network.
