Hybrid role with three days a week in our central London office

About Us

Seccl is the Octopus-owned embedded investment platform that’s on a mission to helping more people to invest – and invest well.

We’re B-Corp certified with an amazing product-market fit, impressive early traction and the potential to transform an outdated industry, for the better. We've been growing fast and will scale even faster over the next few years.

We’re also proud to be part of Octopus, the £multi billion group that's on a mission to breathe new life into broken industries, through companies like Octopus Energy, Octopus Investments and Octopus Money.

Check out the Seccl website for the latest on our products and our mission to shape the future of investments.

The role

As a Sales development representative (SDR) you’ll work closely with the growth and sales teams to help drive new business for Seccl, with an opportunity to grow into a Growth Sales Lead as you build experience. We expect you to be early in your career – but naturally ambitious and a quick learner. You’ll be expected to hit both your individual target and contribute to the overall team target.

Because you’re early on in your career, we do not expect you to have a large amount of domain knowledge, but we expect you’ve shown you’re a quick learner and a self-starter who has been successful whether at school, in a past job, uni or through personal interests.

On a typical day you will be working on…

  • Prospecting: find and research potential leads using LinkedIn, email lists, industry data, and historical data in our CRM. It will be your job to stay on top of key accounts and know who the decision makers are.
  • Outbound outreach: use emails, leadership’s network, various marketing campaigns to engage with potential leads, set them up in our CRM, Hubspot
  • Lead qualification: manage the inbound sales channel(s), ensure they receive a suitable response – whether it’s someone downloading a report or filling out a ‘contact-us form’
  • Setting meetings: support in setting up meetings wth qualified leads for the sales team
  • External and in-house event support: built invite lists, send emails and follow-ups, spot suitable attendees, contribute with ideas on what could be a good topic to cover
  • Desk research – support the team to build target lists (for both leads and accounts), pull relevant industry and company statistics, and data for case studies
  • Deal support - prep briefs ahead of external meetings, assist in taking notes and you’ll be expected to maintain HubSpot (our CRM system) and MEDDIC (our sales methodology) up to date
  • Content creation – create content for leads – this could be custom one-pagers, pitch decks or suggesting ideas to marketing – we expect you to own this creation start to finish
  • Product feedback – spot trends from sales calls, data, or market research and flag anything useful for the product team
  • General team collaboration – work with our Content & Comms (aka marketing team) – share what you’re hearing and help document insights clearly

This role’s for you if you are...

  • Highly organised and excel at time management: because you’ll have to balance several outreach tasks, CRM updates, meetings and the general fast-paced nature of a start-up, we’ll need you to stay on top of things without constant oversight
  • A great communicator with strong people skills: we’re looking for candidates who are confident, clear and reasonable – because you’ll be dealing with many people, both internally and externally, people skills are key
  • Self-motivated: the growth team, and the wider company, is filled with people who are proactive, driven and hungry to learn – we want to see you set goals for yourself and take the initiative to hit them, even when things get tough or repetitive
  • Naturally diligent: we expect any SDR we hire to be naturally diligent and highly dependable – the role requires you respond promptly to leads, track each stage of outreach and hitting daily/weekly activity targets without losing focus
  • Tech proficient: as an SDR, you’ll work across a variety of platforms – CRM systems (Hubspot), data providers (Lusha), internal communication systems (Slack) and you’ll have to get up to speed with our embedded investments solution product
  • A strong written communicator: strong writing skills is crucial – SDRs must craft clear, concise and persuasive outreach and email follow-ups
  • Results driven: An effective SDR must be motivated by targets and thrives in a performance-oriented environment - we’d love for you to take pride in measurable impact
  • Analytical: SDRs must be able to assess data to refine their outreach strategy and quickly ascertain what is working
  • Coachable: this is a team effort and we’re looking for a candidate who is readily available to take feedback and is hungry to improve

This role isn’t for you if...

  • You rely on a lot of top-down direction. Here, you’ll have a lot of freedom and ownership of your role, and you’ll be expected to shape your own progression
  • You’re not comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Our speed and scalability are what set us apart; you need to be able to act quickly and think on your feet
  • You struggle to follow through on ideas. We value people who do what they say they will. If you care about something, you have the freedom here to make it happen
  • You don’t like change. You’ll get on great here if you relish the ambiguity of rapid growthand are willing to embrace uncertainty

What’s In It For You…

We offer a generous mix of benefits for the things that really matter to our people, including:

A salary between £35,000 and £50,000 + bonus dependant on experience + reviewed annually

27 days holiday + bank holidays (some can be flexible) + day off on your birthday + three days (full time) per year for Dependant leave

Interview process

Interviewing is a two-way thing, and we want you to have the time and opportunity to get to know us, as much as we are getting to know you. Our interviews are conversational, so come with questions and be curious. In general, you can expect the interview process to look a bit like this, (following an initial chat with one of our Talent team):

  • First stage – 30 mins competencies-based interview with the hiring manager
  • Second stage – one-hour onsite presentation task
  • Final stage – 20 mins call with the Chief commercial officer

We’ll only close this role once we have enough applications for the next stage. Please submit your application as soon as possible to make sure you don’t miss out and you should expect to hear back from us within one to two weeks of applying.
