Business Development Engineer / Sales Engineer

Due to business growth and project activity, an advanced sensor business is looking for an engineer to join the business development team. As a Sales Engineer or Lead Applications Engineer, you will collaborate with the sensor business development team on new and existing opportunities, providing technical input and guidance.

Your responsibilities will include reviewing customer requirements for new sensor projects, creating project plans and proposals, and managing projects from conception to production launch. You should understand sensing technology, its applications, and how to integrate it into customer products. Providing expert advice and challenging customers on the optimal use of technology will be key.

This role offers the opportunity to significantly influence our customer base growth within a dynamic company that commercializes sensor and measurement system technologies across markets such as aerospace, automotive, robotics, and aftermarket, working with leading global clients.

You will also work with engineering teams to ensure projects are well-planned, costed, and delivered, managing scope changes effectively. The role allows leveraging a wide range of experience within a creative team environment.

The Role:

The main responsibilities include:

  1. Dealing with customer inquiries, reviewing technical and commercial requirements, and qualifying opportunities.
  2. Generating new leads and opportunities through prospecting activities.
  3. Managing and expanding key accounts, and developing new customer relationships in focus markets such as aerospace, motorsport, robotics, off-highway machinery, and automotive eDrives.
  4. Creating detailed proposals based on gathered technical information.
  5. Negotiating contract terms and managing customer onboarding.
  6. Coordinating with business development, engineering, and operations to ensure successful project delivery.
  7. Maintaining and developing sales pipeline reports for clear communication across the business.
  8. Visiting customers, potential clients, and attending trade shows.
The Person:

You will have:

  • A background in aerospace, automotive, or robotics systems engineering, working for an OEM or Tier supplier in a technical role.
  • Ideally some commercial experience.
  • An interest in understanding our technology and its benefits to target customers.
  • A current driving license.

You will be:

  • Results-driven and self-motivated.
  • Creative with a professional attitude.
  • A strong team player, adaptable across engineering functions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well-organized.
  • Willing to travel regularly to customers and trade shows.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • A degree in Engineering, Science, or equivalent.
  • Experience in industries such as automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, or robotics.

This role can be based at either the Bicester facility or the Newcastle-upon-Tyne office.
