Qualifications

• GMC registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and eligibility to work in UK general practice.

Responsibilities

• Provide general medical services to the practice population in line with best practice and GMC guidelines.
• Conduct consultations, home visits when needed, and telephone/video consultations as required.
• Diagnose, investigate, treat, and refer patients following practice and NICE guidance.
• Manage acute and chronic illnesses and promote continuity of care and patient-centered decisions.
• Offer clinical advice, mentorship, and support to the broader clinical/admin team.
• Maintain accurate and timely medical records using System One.
• Contribute to care planning for long-term conditions and medication reviews.

Main duties of the job

Job responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

• Provide general medical services to the practice population in accordance with current best practice and GMC Good Medical Practice guidelines.


• Conduct consultations, home visits (when necessary), and telephone/video consultations as required.


• Provide appropriate diagnosis, investigation, treatment, and referral in line with clinical policies and NICE guidance.


• Manage acute and chronic illnesses, promoting continuity of care and patient-centred decision-making.


• Provide clinical advice, support, and mentorship to the wider clinical and administrative team as required.


• Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and timely medical records using System One.


• Participate in the management of patients with long‑term conditions, including proactive care planning.


• Undertake medication reviews, prescribing safely and effectively in line with practice and national protocols.


• Support and participate in local and national enhanced services and QOF activities.


• Contribute to the management of urgent and on-the-day patient demand through duty doctor or triage sessions.

Team and Organisational Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team including nurses, pharmacists, ANPs, Paramedic and more.


• Attend and contribute to clinical meetings, significant event analyses, and quality improvement initiatives.


• Participate in the practice's audit, governance, and safeguarding processes.


• Support the practice in achieving targets and service improvements in line with PCN and ICB objectives.


• Contribute to the education and supervision of trainees, students, or new staff as appropriate.


• Participate in practice development initiatives and contribute ideas for service improvement.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Complete clinical correspondence, results, and documentation promptly.


• Support repeat prescribing systems and medication safety processes.


• Contribute to workflow optimisation and use of technology to improve efficiency.

Professional Responsibilities

• Maintain registration with the GMC and perform within the scope of the NHS GP Contract.


• Engage in annual appraisal and revalidation processes.


• Participate in continuous professional development (CPD) and mandatory training.


• Adhere to the practice's policies on confidentiality, data protection, equality, and health and safety.


• Actively contribute to a positive, inclusive, and supportive working environment.

Qualifications

• Qualifications and Experience


• Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and inclusion on the GP Register.


• Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) or equivalent.


• Eligible to work in UK general practice (NHS performers list registration).


• Experience in providing primary care services within a GP practice or similar environment.


• Experience in managing long‑term conditions, acute presentations, and preventive care.
