Job description

Due to relocation of an existing team member, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a 4-session salaried GP with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to join our busy, but friendly, family Practice.

You would join an existing clinical team of 4 GP Partners, a Salaried GP, Trainee Nurse Practitioner, 2 Practice Nurses, a Paramedic, and a GP Assistant serving 7,200 patients in Preston's City Centre.

We seek someone who is flexible, dedicated, motivated, and shares our values on rigid-prescribing, mutual pastoral support, and effective clinical practice.

We are looking for someone to offer us 4 sessions per week, worked on Thursdays and Fridays. Excellent remuneration is on offer, dependent on previous experience. We can be flexible on sessions for the right candidate. Additional sessions are available for covering holiday absence.

We are based in Geoffrey Street Health Centre, with excellent transport connections and on-site parking.

Interviews will be held on the morning of Tuesday 3 June with a GP Partner and Practice Manager.

We are a Tier 2 Visa sponsoring Practice.

Main duties of the job
  1. Provide GMS services in the form of face-to-face, telephone, and home visits.
  2. Participate in telephone triage / On-call Doctor role as part of the weekly rota.
  3. Participate in repeat prescriptions checking as part of the weekly rota.
  4. Maintain accurate, concise clinical records and coding.
  5. Work collaboratively across our clinical and non-clinical team.
  6. Support the Partners & Management team in achieving practice aims, recommending and developing as necessary.

We are a long-standing training practice for ST2 & 3 doctors and Medical Students from Lancaster University.

We use the EMIS Web clinical system.

We are an active member of the Greater Preston PCN and part of Lancashire & South Cumbria ICB.

Job responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Undertake surgery consultations, telephone consultations, home visits, repeat prescriptions, and manage queries and correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Make autonomous decisions regarding presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other healthcare workers.
  • Assess healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Develop care plans in line with current Practice protocols, in consultation with patients.
  • Provide counseling and health education.
  • Admit or discharge patients and refer to other care providers as appropriate.
  • Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes.
  • Compile and issue EPS acute and repeat prescriptions, prescribing according to formulary or generically when appropriate.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with Practice policies/guidelines (prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, infection control).
  • Engage in lifelong learning and audit to ensure evidence-based practice.
  • Contribute to evaluation, audit, and development of computer-based records.
  • Attend training and events organized by the Practice or other agencies.
  • Negotiate holidays with partners to ensure continuous patient care.
