Main duties of the job

A Salaried GP is responsible for delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred primary medical care, managing acute and chronic illnesses, promoting health and wellbeing, maintaining clinical records, participating in quality improvement activities, and contributing to the effective operation and development of the practice while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Provide comprehensive primary care services to registered patients through face‑to‑face, telephone, video consultations and E‑Consults.

Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions across all age groups.

Prescribe medications safely and effectively in accordance with current clinical guidelines and local formularies.

Conduct health promotion, disease prevention, and patient education.

Provide urgent and same‑day care within the practice setting.

Review laboratory results, imaging reports, and specialist correspondence, taking appropriate clinical action.

Make appropriate referrals to secondary care, community services and multidisciplinary teams.

Home Visits.

Maintain accurate, legally compliant clinical records.

Clinical Duties

• Undertake face‑to‑face, telephone, and online consultations for patients presenting with a wide range of medical conditions.
• Assess, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic illnesses.
• Prescribe medications appropriately and safely in accordance with national and local guidelines.
• Provide health promotion, preventative care, and lifestyle advice.
• Manage patients with long‑term conditions and complex healthcare needs.
• Arrange appropriate investigations and interpret results.
• Make referrals to secondary care and community services as required.
• Provide home visits where clinically necessary.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical records.

Administrative Duties

• Process clinical correspondence, pathology results, and hospital letters.
• Complete referrals, reports, fit notes, insurance forms, and other relevant documentation.
• Ensure clinical coding is accurate and up to date.
• Contribute to achieving Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) targets and other contractual requirements.

Professional Responsibilities

• Work in accordance with GMC Good Medical Practice guidance.
• Participate in annual appraisal, revalidation, and continuing professional development activities.
• Maintain GMC registration and professional indemnity requirements.
• Participate in practice meetings and educational sessions.
• Engage in clinical audit and quality improvement activities.

Team Working

• Work collaboratively with GPs, nursing staff, administrative colleagues, and wider multidisciplinary teams.
• Support a culture of learning, respect, and continuous improvement.
• Contribute positively to the day‑to‑day functioning and development of the practice.
• Fully qualified General Practitioner with entry on the GMC GP Register.
• Licence to practise with the General Medical Council.
• Excellent clinical and communication skills.
• Commitment to delivering high‑quality patient care.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Understanding of clinical governance and quality improvement.
• Experience working within UK General Practice.
• Interest in service development or quality improvement.
