Job description

Longrigg Medical Centre are looking for a new salaried GPfor 6 sessions per week, to start from November 2025, with the option of futurepartnership.

We are an extremely friendly and welcoming practicecurrently consisting of 4 partners (3 of whom are former Longrigg GP trainees),4 salaried GPs and a Nurse Practitioner.

Main duties of the job

The majority of our administrative work is done in a largecommunal space complete with workstations, kitchen and comfortable seatingarea. We have a culture of working and problem solving as a team. Discussionsaround clinical and organisational issues are strongly encouraged, both on anad-hoc basis and in our weekly practice meeting. You will always find someonein the communal room available for support, or just a chat and a coffee (and ahomemade cake if youre lucky!). Supporting each other to maintain positivewell-being and a healthy work-life balance are important aspects of ourpractice ethos. We regularly socialise together outside of work too. Mostrecently this has included bowling, BBQ's and a rather muddy country walk!

About us

We have strong links within our East Gateshead PCN and lookforward to further collaboration in future. We already have a large team ofCommunity Link Workers, 4 Pharmacists, a Pharmacy Technician, a First contactPhysio and a Primary Care Mental Health Worker, with other roles currentlybeing developed.

We are keen to support colleagues with development ofadditional clinical interests and would love to hear what skills or servicesyou would like to bring to the practice in the future.

Job responsibilities

Thepost-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needsin a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for allregistered and temporary patients.

ClinicalResponsibilities:

  • Inaccordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder willmake him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties includingsurgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visitingpatients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealingwith queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
  • Makingprofessional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems,whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers withinthe organisation
  • Assessingthe health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosedproblems
  • Screeningpatients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • Inconsultation with patients and in line with current Practice diseasemanagement protocols, developing care plans for health
  • Providingcounselling and health education
  • Admittingor discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to othercare providers as appropriate
  • Recordingclear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Collectingdata for audit purposes
  • Compilingand issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoidinghand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
  • Prescribingin accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically)whenever this is clinically appropriate
  • Ingeneral the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normalduties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primarycare.

Other Responsibilitieswithin the Organisation:

  • Awarenessof and compliance with all relevant Practice policies/guidelines, e.g.prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety
  • Acommitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based bestpractice
  • Contributingto evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation
  • Contributingto the development of computer-based patient records
  • Contributingto the summarising of patient records and Read-Coding patient data
  • Attendingtraining and events organised by the Practice or other agencies, whereappropriate.
  • Beinvolved in supervising/teaching medical students/GP registrars within thepractice.
