Job summary

Vale Group Practice, a multidisciplinary team serving around 20,000 patients across five sites in Barry, is seeking a Salaried GP. The role involves conducting face-to-face, telephone and video consultations, managing a wide range of conditions and prescribing within the GMS contract.

Applicants should be fully qualified GPs with GMC registration and eligibility for the NHS Wales GP Performers List within three months.

Qualifications

• Evidence of completed specialist clinical training.

Responsibilities

• Conduct face-to-face, telephone and video consultations to assess, diagnose and treat conditions.
• Manage a broad range of medical conditions independently within the GMS contract.
• Refer patients to secondary or community services and manage admissions/discharges.
• Issue prescriptions in line with the formulary and keep clinical notes.
• Contribute to audits and admin outside GMS.
• Work across five sites with a multidisciplinary team.

Job description

Salaried GP post with Vale Group Practice, a multidisciplinary practice serving around 20,000 patients across five sites. The GP assesses, diagnoses and manages acute and chronic conditions through face-to-face, telephone and video consultations, with referrals, prescribing and clinical record-keeping. Six sessions a week, which may alternate between sites, and a wider team of pharmacists, advanced nurse practitioners and a mental health nurse; newly qualified GPs are welcome. Full GMC registration and inclusion on the NHS Wales GP Performers List, or eligibility within three months, are needed.

What the job involves

• Conduct face-to-face, telephone and video consultations to assess, diagnose and treat acute or chronic conditions
• Manage a broad range of medical conditions independently, safely and within the GMS contract
• Refer patients to secondary or community services and manage caseload admissions and discharges
• Issue computer-generated prescriptions in line with the practice formulary
• Keep accurate, contemporaneous clinical notes and process hospital correspondence
• Contribute to practice quality improvement audits and general practice administration outside GMS
• Work with ANPs, practice nurses, pharmacists and cluster-based services
• Work across the five practice sites, with sessions alternating between them

What’s required

Qualifications

• Fully qualified General Practitioner
• MRCGP or equivalent higher degree
• Evidence of completed specialist clinical training

Registration & licences

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
• Inclusion on the NHS Wales GP Performers List, or eligible within 3 months
• Approved medical indemnity cover

Experience

• Broad-based clinical experience within UK primary care
• Experience working autonomously and within multidisciplinary medical teams

Nice to have

• MRCGP or equivalent higher degree
• Evidence of completed specialist clinical training
• Minimum 2 years' experience as a GP
• Experience teaching medical students or GP registrars
• Minor surgery competence
