Job summary

Strayside Health in Harrogate seeks a GP to cover 5–7 sessions weekly at a modern, single-site surgery. The post involves mixed 15‑minute face-to-face and telephone clinics, plus home visits and admin time for prescriptions and paperwork.

You will join an established clinical team with strong nursing and back-office support, aiming to deliver patient-centered care in a forward-thinking practice.

Qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree; GMC registration and MRCGP are required.
  • Eligibility for Medical Indemnity Membership.
  • GMC registration and MRCGP indicate competence for general practice.
  • Teaching qualification and flexible hours support ongoing professional development.
  • DBS check and occupational health clearance are typical prerequisites.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct GP consultations (surgery/telephone/eConsultations) and home visits.
  • Check and sign repeat prescriptions; handle queries and paperwork promptly.
  • Process blood results and incoming clinical documents; manage clinical information.
  • Make autonomous decisions on presenting problems; refer appropriately.
  • Assess health needs, screen for disease risks, and provide preventative advice.
  • Develop care plans in line with current practice protocols.
  • Document notes clearly and contemporaneously; contribute to audits.

Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a GP to join our team to cover 5 to 7 sessions per week in a friendly, dynamic, and forward-thinking, single-site surgery in Harrogate. We have an outstanding clinical and nursing team, situated in modern, purpose-built premises in the heart of this historic Spa town. Strayside Health is a recently formed practice (following the successful merger of East Parade and Park Parade Surgeries in April 2025). Before the merger, both practices worked closely together for a number of years, sharing our Nurse Team and back-office staff (medical secretaries, data quality and administration teams). Our newly merged practice is progressive and keen to embrace change whilst maintaining the traditional values of patient centred general practice. We have a great team ethos in our workforce, with strong staff retention. We are friendly and supportive with a focus on staff wellbeing and for many years have continued the tradition of our valuable daily GP coffee meeting. Routine clinics compromise of a mix of telephone and 15-minute face-to-face consultation appointments, including 25% of routine surgery time being protected for clinical admin and a defined number of appointments per routine session. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who share our values and are ready to embrace the challenges of the future with our team. We can be flexible about start dates and informal enquiries are welcome.Main duties of the job In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations, eConsultations, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion. Actioning a share of blood results and incoming clinical documents, both paper and electronic Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness Offering preventative advice Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols Referring to other care providers as appropriate Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards Collecting data for audit purposes Prescribing in accordance with the ICB or practice prescribing formulary whenever this is clinically appropriate In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care., Informal visits are welcomed to the practice.
