Job description

Interviews for this position are being held on 19th August 2025.

A Newly Qualified ARRs GP, you will be allocated across the GP practices to help deliver acute, on the day demand, as well as harness the benefits of local team working.

Our team centred approach includes, regular clinical meetings, quarterly protected learning time meetings.

We recognise the transition from working as a trainee into an independent practitioner and will support you with a dedicated Clinical Lead mentor and a named clinical supervisor in addition to the wider support package being offered by Rochdale North PCN.

Main duties of the job

To perform as an autonomous general practitionerworking independently and with other health care professionals to assess,diagnose and treat the conditions of patients attending the GP practices.

Provide expert professional advice to patients,carers and colleagues and ensure the maintenance of clinical excellence.

To be professionally accountable and responsiblefor all elements of clinical practice in accordance with the GMC code ofconduct, ensuring the safety of patients and the quality of their care is thefocus.

About us

GP practices across the Rochdale borough, who have historically worked independently, have come together to work in a federated model to improve healthcare across the Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale (HMR) neighbourhoods.

Rochdale Health Alliance (RHA) was established in 2016, by GP practices from across the Rochdale Borough, to streamline the way in which services are delivered and to contribute to the development of the wider health and social care provision across the Borough.

Retaining their own identity and autonomy, general practitioner (GP) practices will work together and support community and hospital services, including the public and voluntary sector, to ensure healthcare is coordinated for the residents of the Rochdale borough.

Each of the four localities of HMR, which include Rochdale, Heywood, Middleton and the Pennines elected GPs to represent their locality and become directors on the Board.

The Board is supported by a management team who ensure the day to day functioning of the organisation.

In a time of change for health and social care and in order to meet the needs of the public, health, social and voluntary sector providers are coming together to provide more efficient, cost effective healthcare system and to encourage and engage the public in managing their own care wherever possible. In HMR this is via the Local Care Organisation. RHA represents primary care on the board of the LCO.

Job responsibilities

In accordance with the Practice timetable, asagreed, the post-holder will be available to undertake a variety of dutiesincluding surgery consultations, telephone consultations, visiting patients athome, checking, and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries,paperwork, reports, and correspondence in a timely fashion.

Making professional, autonomous decisions inrelation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from otherhealth care workers within the organisation.

Assessing the health care needs of patients withundifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.

In consultation with patients and in line withcurrent Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for healthand promoting healthy lifestyle strategies and education.

Manage long-term conditions and patients withcomplex problems.

Recording clear and contemporaneous consultationnotes to agreed standards. Collecting data for audit purposes and complyingwith QOF requirements.

Check, manage & process patient testresults.

Refer patients to secondary care and/or relevantorganisations and internally within the PCN (e.g. to additional roles membersof the PCN team) as required.

Compiling and issuing computer-generated acuteand repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions wheneverpossible) in line with local and national guidelines.

Prescribing in accordance with the Practiceprescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.

In general, the post-holder will be expected toundertake the duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working withinprimary care in a surgery on a PCN basis.

The post-holder may undertake fair share ofhome visiting sessions per week as allocated.
