Job summary

VGC Group is seeking an experienced Supervisor Safety Lead for a Birmingham project. This contract role offers up to two years and involves a 50-hour week with PAYE at £26.96 per hour.

Key duties include leading safety briefings, enforcing RAMS and permits, coaching on safe task setup and delivery, and escalating unsafe practices. Strong experience in live construction and rail/highways projects is preferred.

Qualifications

• CSCS Gold or Black Card is required.
• SMSTS or NEBOSH qualification is required.
• First Aid certificate or training is required.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with site supervisors, foremen and works managers on site.
• Support and improve daily briefings, task briefings and POWRA.
• Challenge unsafe behaviours and improve safety standards on site.
• Support stop work decisions when controls are missing or conditions change.
• Ensure task, controls, permits and emergency arrangements are understood by teams.

Supervisor Safety Lead - Birmingham - £26.96

VGC Group are looking for an experienced Supervisor Safety Lead to start on a project in Birmingham. This contract is available to start as soon as possible and we can offer up to 2 years for the successful candidate.

Qualifications:

Supervisor Safety Lead experience

• Work closely with supervisors, general foremen and works managers at the point of work
• Support and improve the quality of daily briefings, task briefings and POWRA
• Challenge unsafe behaviours and poor standards in a constructive and professional manner
• Support stop work decisions where controls are not in place or conditions have changed
• Ensure teams fully understand the task, control measures, permits and emergency arrangements
• Identify interface risks between trades, plant, lifting operations and access routes
• Coach supervisors and operatives on safe task set-up and delivery, not just report issues
• Escalate repeated poor practices, weak controls and unresolved actions
• Maintain clear, simple records of observations, interventions and follow-up actions

What we are looking for

• Strong experience in a live construction supervisory environment
• Background in major infrastructure, heavy civils, tunnelling, structures or lifting operations (desirable)
• Good understanding of RAMS, POWRA, permits and point-of-work risk control
• Confident using IT systems, reporting tools and Microsoft Office
• Ability to work closely with site delivery teams and influence behaviours

Based in Birmingham, remuneration for this role is £26.96 per hour (PAYE). You will accrue holiday entitlement and be eligible to join the VGC pension scheme once certain criteria have been met.
