We are seeking an Safety Manager to lead the management and oversight of health and safety across our national and local change programmes.
In this pivotal role, you will provide expert guidance to project managers, ensure robust risk mitigation, and uphold the highest standards of safety for employees and operations. If you are an experienced health and safety professional with strong leadership skills and a passion for driving safety excellence, this opportunity is for you.
About the role
Provide guidance to project managers to ensure that potential H&S impacts have been adequately considered before deploying national or local change (e.g., new working methods or equipment).
Manage all elements of the H&S portfolio by assessing the size, complexities, and interdependencies of the change portfolio.
Ensure risks resulting from transformation projects are adequately mitigated and any potential increases to the business risk profile are highlighted and understood by the Executive Board via the functional Director.
Provide safety concurrence sign-off for new national projects.
Responsible for all matters relating to the health, safety, and welfare of employees within the Portfolio and those affected by their operations.
Upskill and maintain the knowledge base of Programmes, Engineering and Fleet community on all aspects of Health and Safety Management, working in conjunction with Ops Design, Group and HR colleagues.
Maintain the Change Management' SHE Instruction and develop associated documentation to ensure that there is robust governance in place to deploy projects and programmes at national and unit level.
Review proposed changes to SHE Management System Standards, Instructions, or associated materials to ensure that they adequately fulfil legal obligations, are consistent with other aspects of the Management System and incorporate forthcoming business changes or programmes
About you
Level 6 Occupational Health and Safety Practitioner qualification such as NEBOSH Diploma
Certified Member of IOSH or equivalent professional safety body; or working towards this level of membership
Experience of functioning at a senior management level
Excellent knowledge of SHE legislation
Experience of incident investigation techniques and root cause analysis
Able to identify and manage significant risks and opportunities, make effective decisions based on the analysis of appropriate data and knows when to employ additional or specific expertise resources.
Proactive in approach, deals confidently with competing demands, and is an acknowledged achiever with excellent prioritisation and planning skills.
Able to achieve good working relationship with colleagues at all levels in a large organisation, and to engage with key stakeholders.
Able to challenge and influence management teams in driving safety performance improvement.
