Job description

Safety Management System Officer & Reporting Manager

Company: Safran Seats | Job field: Architecture and systems engineering | Location: Cwmbran, Wales, United Kingdom | Contract type: Permanent | Contract duration: Full-time | Professional status: Professional, Engineer & Manager

Are you interested in working at the business end of Aerospace, where airline brand meets innovative passenger experience? Then your next opportunity could be with Safran Seats, an industry award-winning, premium designer and manufacturer of First and Business Class seating and technology. Our passenger experience prides itself on innovation, customization, quality, and industrial design.

At Safran Seats, we are unique within aerospace, as we interface with both the world's biggest airlines and airframers alike, with the largest seats portfolio of all seats suppliers. One day you could be liaising with one of the world's largest airframers, and the next, some of the biggest airline brands around the world!

In the UK, Safran Seats specialises solely in the First Class and Business Class seating markets for wide-body aircraft, with industrial and engineering teams in Cwmbran and Newport, Wales, and Brackley, England.

Job Summary:

Aviation Safety Management seeks to proactively mitigate safety risks before they result in aviation accidents and incidents. Although seats are rarely the cause of aircraft accidents, they play a critical part in the survivability, and therefore the severity outcome of aircraft accidents and incidents. Negative publicity resulting from poor safety performance of aviation products can profoundly impact business viability.

As a Safety Management System Officer & Reporting Manager, you will:

  • Be a strong communicator and promoter of Aviation Safety;
  • Constantly seek potential safety hazards related to SGB products;
  • Effectively report safety risks to management for proactive mitigation;
  • Ensure accidents and incidents involving SGB products are avoided or severity minimized.

Ensure compliance with ICAO Annex 19 requirements through the implementation of Safety Management System (SMS) across Safran Seats and GB operations, supporting design, production, and maintenance regulations. You will support the SST SMS Safety Manager and/or the Compliance Monitoring & Safety Manager, ensuring process adherence to group guidance and sharing best practices. Additionally, you will facilitate SMS training for management, engineering, technicians, and staff.

Job Requirements:

Candidate requirements include:

  • Relevant engineering degree or equivalent qualifications (HND, BTEC Level 5, NVQ Level 5);
  • Significant experience in high-volume manufacturing, preferably aerospace;
  • Experience with quality assurance systems and audits;
  • Understanding of regulatory and customer requirements;
  • Knowledge of ICAO, IAQG, ISO standards (e.g., AS/EN9100, ISO 9001), and aerospace regulations (EASA, EMAR, CAA Part 21G, 21J, Part 145);
  • Experience in safety management principles and practices;
  • Proficiency with quality tools and continuous improvement techniques (PFMEA, SPC, APQP);
  • Broad operational knowledge of organizational functions and systems.

Please apply and submit your CV today! We will review your application and contact you for next steps. Safran Seats values diversity and inclusion and is committed to building a welcoming workplace. This role is subject to pre-employment checks, including criminal record checks. Only candidates passing these checks will be considered for employment.

Additional Benefits:

We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including 33 days holiday, pension scheme, private medical cover, salary sacrifice benefits, life assurance, annual bonus, flexible working, career development opportunities, and involvement in CSR activities.
